Lines Of Life By Jeff Johnson Looking from an airplane window, Out upon the world below, Like a mountaineer on the highest peak, I see the lines converge. Not unlike the lines on my face, When I stare into a mirror, There's been good and bad, I have laughed, been sad, It all is what I am. Lines of life on this earth, Lines of life since my birth, See the millions from this sky, They are with us 'til we die. Lines of life on my face, Lines of life up in space, All diverging 'round the bend, Yet converging in the end ... Looking from my airplane window, As we're coming in to land, It's so easy to forget this sight, Of how things really are. Not unlike the times of my life, As I leave the bedroom mirror, I will soon forget the many things, That make me who I am. Lines of life on this earth, Lines of life since my birth, See the millions from this sky, They are with us 'til we die. Lines of life on my face, Lines of life up in space, All diverging 'round the bend, Yet converging in the end ...

Just A Moment Ago By Jeff Johnson We were all right here, Just a moment ago, Moving in the dance, Just a moment ago. Now I am all alone, Traveling away from you, I'm bound to this pilgrimage, Yet bound to this loneliness. We were all right here, Just a moment ago, Moving in the dance, Just a moment ago. We were all right here.

Pilgrimage 03:32
Pilgrimage By Jeff Johnson Does not wisdom call, And understanding lift up her voice? On top of the heights beside the way, Where the paths meet, she takes her stand ... "O naive ones, discern prudence, And, O fools, discern wisdom." – Proverbs 8:1 - 2, 5 (NAS) Then I was a child asleep, Who was dreaming. Now I am a pilgrim awake, Who's seeking. Long ago I had this dream that I would find truth, If I sought for you. Wind blows through the halls of my heart, They are empty. Rain batters the walls of my soul, They crumble. Naked I climb these stone stairs, A choice to be made, I am seeking you ... Prudence guides me in the choice, And understanding lifts her voice, They join me up above the heights, They join me in this song tonight. I'm reeling in this joy and pain, Still dangling in my 'wind and rain.' I'm looking for a sign from you, Any little thing will do ... Then I was a child asleep, Who was dreaming. Now I am a pilgrim awake, Who's seeking. Long ago I had this dream that I would find truth, If I sought for you.

I Move In This Flow By Jeff Johnson Chambord I can see you still, Lurking past my window sill. Silhouette against the sky – A phantom in the night, Calling from before my time. Statues staring down at me, Stained glass, Iconography. Painted bulls on ancient caves to people on TV. Sewn together in my tapestry. I move in this flow, I move in this flow, A glacier made from layers of history's snow. I am what I know, I am what I know. And what I know is what I see, In dreaming and reality, On and on this process goes, Wretchedness and beauty juxtaposed, It's juxtaposed ... Spirit dancing in my heart, I'm humbled by my little part. Moving to the center stage, I shout out my line, Knowing everything will turn out fine. I move in this flow, I move in this flow, A glacier made from layers of history's snow. I am what I know, I am what I know. And what I know is what I see, In dreaming and reality, On and on this process goes, Wretchedness and beauty juxtaposed. I move in this flow.

South, Towards Carcassonne (Its In His Hands) By Jeff Johnson Rain is falling down tonight, As I walk below street light, I am all alone in Beaune, France, Heading south, towards Carcassonne. Earlier I made the big mistake of pulling out your photograph, Is there nothing I can do to keep my heart from ... ? Long ago I wrote this song, And it keeps coming back to me, Funny how the things you write for someone else come back to you. Its in his hands, Yes I know its in his hands, And I know that it can be no other way.* Don't you be sad tonight, For the Lord's in control. And don't be afraid, For the Lord's in control. And don't be ashamed, For the Lord's in control ...* All alone tonight, Oh Lord I am so grateful you are here with me tonight. All alone tonight in France, Wishing that my heart could dance, Out across the clouds above, Where I'd meet the ones I love. •From "Its In His Hands" © 1977 Sola Scriptura Songs (BMI) Administered by www.musicservices.org

The Wager 03:19
The Wager By Jeff Johnson 'Either God is or he is not.' But to which view shall we be inclined? ... a coin is being spun which will come down heads or tails. How will you wager? – From "Pensées (#418)" by Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662) ... they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout. – Matthew 25:5a - 6b (NAS) Wake up, wake up the sleeper, Look out into the night. Get up, get up the dreamer, The dancer is in sight tonight ... * Pascal is wagering, Only a fool would bet. •From "Dancer In The Night © 1983 Sola Scriptura Songs Administered by www.musicservices.org

A Bow In The Clouds (All Through The Night) By Jeff Johnson based on the Welsh lullaby. Awake, sleeper, And arise from the dead, And Christ will shine on you. – Ephesians 5:14b (NAS) A child's lullaby is what I heard, An echo through the chasm of my fear, It lasted all through the night. The melody descended on my heart, With words so beautiful, I had to weep, They lasted all through the night. Soft and drowsy, Hours are creeping, Hill and dale in slumber sleeping. I woke up feeling like I'd slept for years, Remembering the vision that I saw, There's a bow in the clouds today, Oh Lord, what can I say? I can sing you praise, I will give you delight ... A child's lullaby is what I hear, An echo through the chasm of my fear, All through the night. The melody descends upon my heart, With words so beautiful, I have to weep, All through the night. O'er thy spirit, Gently stealing, Visions of delight revealing. They lasted through the night, I dreamed that I was dancing on the clouds with you, There's a bow in the clouds today, Oh Lord, what can I say?

All These Faces By Jeff Johnson Faces from the places of my life, Leaving traces in the spaces of my mind. All these faces from the places of my life, They're leaving traces in the spaces of my mind. And I sit here looking at the sky, For a glimpse of your glory passing by, But all I see ... Up on the mountain tops of Switzerland, Along the ocean shore of Oregon, Looked in cathedrals and the colleges, Looked everywhere, but I still see more, In these faces ... You never know until they're gone, How much of God was written on, That precious face you thought you knew.

In This Between By Jeff Johnson Hailey reaches out her hand and touches Susie's face, Like spirit moving on the surface full of life and grace. In between, an intersection forming in this place, In between the glory and a fallen human race. Shadows from the tree outside dance across the floor, Moving like a shadow play right on through the door. Wind and water, flesh and blood: spirit has no bounds, Jesus reaches out his hand and writes upon this ground. In this between, All things are seen, Spirit and flesh intersect. Darkness and light, Blindness and sight, Spirit and flesh intersect. I move in this flow, I move in this flow. I am what I know as I move in this flow. Walking through Mont Saint Michel late one August night, David keeps our pathway lit with his small flashlight. Out across the dim horizon someone's headlights glow, Like torches guiding pilgrim's feet centuries ago. In this between, All things are seen, Spirit and flesh intersect. Darkness and light, Blindness and sight, Spirit and flesh intersect.

Lullaby 03:14
Lullaby By Jeff Johnson Stormy, Wind and rain are dancing just outside the room. Bedtime, Sleepy eyes rock back and forth inside the room. So how's a little girl like you supposed to go to sleep, When your heart is being drawn to join the dance? So I will sing this song for you as long as you can hear the wind, Blowing through the tree and the sound of the rain falling down, Falling down, its falling down, falling down ... Goodnight.

about

Splendor in the ordinary is the theme in this work. Castles and cathedrals in France inspire meditations on the nature of life, the glory of Creation, family, the presence of God and the power of love.

Introduction –
In the Fall of 1987 I traveled to Europe for several weeks. Much of the inspiration for this album came from that trip which became a sort of "pilgrimage." These songs continue and, in some respects, complete many of the themes and ideas I have presented on my previous solo vocal albums. For me, these albums chronicle my own pilgrimage. Like looking through old photo albums, I listen to them from time to time and remember: where I have been, what I have seen, and most importantly, who I have met along the way. It is to those many "faces" of family and friends, both past and present, that Pilgrimage is dedicated. – Jeff Johnson

Music Review –

The lyrics are so literate and the music is so mesmerizing...the results are marvelous. – BQN / Harvest Rock Syndicate
