Prayer
By Jeff Johnson
Down in the ground, there is buried a ship,
Wonderfully made to behold,
Lost in my prayers, I have sailed it away,
Out through this window I hold my heart's longings,
And carry them into the clouds above,
I fly away.
How blessed is the soul,
Which hopes and dreams in you,
Who made the sky and earth,
The sea and all within.
How grateful is the one,
Whose heart is helped by him,
Who set the prisoner free,
And made the blind man see.
Over the waters a wild goose has flown,
Pulling my ship full of longings,
Crossing the deep made of darkness and doubt,
Onto the isle of dreams I have landed –
And hidden by heart in it's caverns of mercy.
(I need your caverns of mercy.)
I've laid down my soul there to sleep.
(I lay my soul to sleep tonight.)
Oh, if I had faith, I would walk to that island,
(I'd walk out onto the water.)
Yet, someday I pray that I'll fly,
By your mercy, I'll fly ...
How blessed is the soul that hopes and dreams in you!

Quiver
By Jeff Johnson
The cycle continues,
As the waves keep on crashing in,
While the ground that I'm walking on quivers with each blow.
And a voice from within, longing to be free, cries:
"I can't take this anymore!"
Still the voice from within, longing to be free, cries:
"I can't take this anymore!"
But the cycle continues,
And the waves keep on crashing in,
And this dream that I'm living in –
It quivers.

Comus
By Jeff Johnson with words from the masque by John Milton (1608 - 1674)
Spirit:
To the ocean now I fly,
And those happy climes that lie,
Where day never shuts his eye,
Up on the broad fields of the sky.
I can fly,
Or I can run,
Quickly to the green earth's end.
And from thence can soar as soon,
to the corners of the moon.

Only Time

Only Time
By Jeff Johnson with words* from "Crossing The Bar" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 - 1892)
Its only time running like a river,
Running like a chalk-white horse across the hills.
Its only time keeping me from freedom,
Keeping me from sailing out across the sea.
Beyond this rugged shore,
Beyond the sea,
Your Ariel-like voice,
Calls out to me.
Is that the ghost of Tennyson I see,
Or is it just his muse,
Walking across this isle of windswept fields,
And longing to go home?
It says,
"Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness or farewell,
When I (do) embark." *
Its only time,
(Only time is running,)
Running like a river,
(Like a river flowing.)
Running like a chalk-white horse across the hills.
Its only time,
(Only time is passing,)
Keeping me from freedom,
(Towards a world of freedom.)
Keeping me from sailing out across the sea.
"For though from out our bourne of time and place,
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my pilot face to face,
When I have crossed the bar." *
Its only time running like a river,
Running like a chalk-white horse across the hills.
Its only time keeping me from freedom,
Keeping me from sailing out across the sea.
Only time is running like a river flowing,
Only time is passing towards a world of freedom –
Out across the wide blue sea.

Cry
By Jeff Johnson
Words from "In Memorian A.H.H." by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 - 1892)
Behold, we know not anything,
I can but trust that good shall fall
At last–far off–at last, to all,
And every winter change to spring.
So runs my dreams; but what am I?
An infant crying in the night;
An infant crying for the light,
And with no language but a cry.

Tear
By Jeff Johnson with words* from "The Tempest" by William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
If a tear should fall like a falling star through the evening sky,
Like a thousand years in the eyes of God,
From the eyes of men –
If a tear should fall, let it fall like stars lighting up the sky.
We are such stuff as dreams are made of,
Our lives are rounded with a sleep.
If there is anything I know for sure tonight we will awake.*
If a sparrow dies in the midst of flight,
If a flower fades in the sun's pure light,
But a thousand years in the eyes of God –
Like the cold earth's core burning up like love in a frozen heart.
We are such stuff as dreams are made of,
Our lives are rounded with a sleep.
If there is anything I know for sure tonight we will awake.*
