about

I have written a lot of my recent music while working at Laity Lodge as a worship leader for their many retreats. I often have several days in the middle of the week between retreats when I am able to set up with a digital piano and my laptop recording set up in the wonderfully ambient Cody Center. I have a very set routine where I spend a few hours practicing and composing in the morning, breaking for lunch, going on a hike and then returning to work a few more hours before dark.

I enjoyed a particularly fruitful time at Laity in September 2013. I was in good voice and recorded many of the final vocal tracks for “Broken, Gazing” during that time. I also wrote and recorded two new songs for the album including this piece inspired by Revelation 5. I recorded the vocal as a solo chant and added all of the keyboards and transitional piano part later. Janet’s beautiful latin chant that opens the piece was one of the final elements added.

The connected instrumental, “Godric’s Theme,” originally appeared on my “Journey Prayers” CD. This is actually a live recording of the piece that Wendy I recorded in 2012 during a sound check for a concert. The evocative cello line was written by Wendy and captured in 2014.

lyrics

Agnus Dei,
qui tollis peccata mundi
(Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world)

Worthy are you, O lamb who was slain,
You make all things new.
Glory and honor to your name,
You rescued me.
